FAQ

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, we are accepting new clients. We offer in-person sessions & virtual sessions for individuals in NC & FL.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Is what I share confidential?

The laws concerning confidentiality in North Carolina are very clear: What you choose to share with a therapist is confidential as long as the therapist does not suspect certain dangerous conditions.  When clients share information about child abuse, elder abuse, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation or if the client is gravely disabled and cannot care for themselves the law states that as a mandated reporter we are required to report the situation to the proper authorities.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will therapy last?

As we enter into our work together we will outline session length and frequency specific to your unique needs. This may be adjusted as our work goes on and needs change. Weekly sessions are generally 50-minutes in length. We often suggest weekly sessions until goals are met or longer intensives, as needed.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.

Which therapeutic technique do you use?

We have an eclectic approach and will tailor the work to meet your individual needs. Establishing a therapeutic relationship is extremely important to us. During this time, our goal is to learn how you show up in the world and how the world treats you. We want to know about your culture, your identity, your dreams and your regrets. We also work from a whole person perspective and believe there are often intersections between our emotional, physical and social concerns. We will “pull” from the most effective technique for you.
